Plastic raw materials increase in price by 50% in three months
Plastics processing companies (manufacturers of the product) both in Spain and in the rest of Europe have been observing a significant increase in the price of raw materials for several months, a circumstance derived from the shortage of supply that causes delays in production and in the delivery of orders.
This is a situation of polymer shortages for the plastics processing sector in Europe very similar to the one that occurred in the first half of 2015. Something that affects more than 60,000 companies in Europe and in Spain alone more than 3,000 companies, 98% of them SMEs.
Since the end of 2020, there has been an alarming increase in force majeure declarations by raw material manufacturers, especially with regard to the supply of polyolefins and PVC, making it difficult for plastics processors to access the material needed to maintain their production.
